ZEN OUTFITTING TIPS I have heard quite a few comments about boat manufacturers going backwards in design and pushing the “river-runner” line of boats as the new trend. While there will always be a niche for the two extremes of boating—playboating and creeking—there never was a time when “river-running” went out of style, although it [...] -

On May 11, I loaded up the Jackson Cuda and headed north to Jacksonville, Florida to fish the 9th annual Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic. This was my third time attending this event. This event brings in close to 400 kayak anglers each year. The captain’s meeting was put together very well. There was what seemed [...] -

Aaron T,
The Superfun should be a better river runner at your size. It’s a longer boat with more of a planning surface to keep you on the surface of the water. The monstar would be much easier for you to do vertical playboating tricks, but probably more of a handful downriver. Enjoy!

For flatwater work or a really retentive hole the Star might be best, depending on your leg length. Smaller boats are easier to learn tricks in and easier on your body when throwing them around. On the other hand, bigger boats get more pop on tricks, are faster on waves, and more retentive in holes [...]

I’m 170 too, and for play I would go FUN for sure as I’ve run it down class 4+ easily but can also flatwater cartwheel it all over the pools. But if river running is the primary concern choose the 4-Fun. While I can flatwater cartwheel and loop the 4-fun most people our size cannot, [...]
