Fished BCKFC’s Redfish Rumble with Blake and Kevin this past weekend to less-than-spectacular results. I was fairly confident going in that I’d at least catch five redfish as the format calls for your five heaviest slot redfish, which is right in my wheelhouse, or so I thought. The combination of high tide and winds from the south turned [...] -

One of my favorite tournaments, Paddlepalooza, was held this past weekend in Leeville, LA. This year marks it’s tenth year in existence, amazing to think how far the tournament has come in ten years. A record number of people registered for the event, officially there were 272 kayak fishermen (and women) signed up, making it the [...] -

The new Cruise from Jackson Kayak doesn’t come with a paddle keeper of it’s own, so I needed to install them. A paddle keeper not only makes a handy place to store a paddle while on the water, but for kayak fishermen it is the perfect place to stow a stake out pole. It’s super convenient making it [...] -

Had an unforgettable day on the water yesterday. Conditions couldn’t have been better, the weather was amazing and the fish were cooperative. When the weather is nice paddling is never a problem, so a long exploratory trip was the plan. I put in probably 10-12 miles yesterday and hardly even noticed it, yesterday or today. I [...] -

The rain finally let up last Thursday and it has been nice and sunny ever since. With clear skies, highs in the low 60′s and winds from 5-10 mph, yesterday was too nice a day to not go fishing. With all local freshwater blown out I made the drive down to the marsh to try my [...] -

“How not to land a fish from a kayak” would also be appropriate. After breaking a rod while netting a fish during my last trip I turned to the video I took of the trip for answers. It was pretty obvious in the video what I did wrong, in real time though it happened so [...]

This past Saturday I participated in BCKFC‘s Fall N Tide VII kayak fishing tournament. Fall N Tide is held in Plaquemines Parish and has lately been headquartered out of Delta Marina . FNT has seen a steady increase in participation since it’s inception and this year had over 150 participants. I wasn’t originally planning on fishing the tournament though. [...] -

I spent this past weekend fishing in Grand Isle with some friends from Alabama River Fishing . I got hooked up with these guys when I lived in Madison for a year. We had a group of about 15 kayak fishermen, split between 2 camps in Chenier. The goal was to catch redfish and I believe most accomplished [...] -

Try your local kayak dealer. I think I got mine through ACK online.

Started a new project at work and it has my schedule all out of whack. This explains the latest trend of one post a week for this site. With the new project I’m putting in more hours, more hours means more money, but less free time, so it is kind of bittersweet. I didn’t think I’d [...] -

America is awesome and we’re reminded of that fact every July 4th. What better way to celebrate our freedom than to go fishing. So Blake and I decided to head down to the marsh and scout out a new area we’ve never fished. It turned out to be one of those rare holidays when the weather [...] - Load More
